Its name, thought to derive from the Welsh word afal (meaning “apple”), is often translated as “The Isle of Apples” — a sacred orchard untouched by time, where the fruit grants healing, wisdom, and immortality. In Arthurian legend, Avalon is the enchanted realm where King Arthur’s sword, Excalibur, was forged, and where he was taken after his final battle to rest and be healed by priestesses until Britain would need him again.
Many believe that Avalon is rooted in real geography — with Glastonbury, in Somerset, England, long associated with the ancient isle. The early Christian monks of Glastonbury claimed to have found King Arthur’s grave in the abbey grounds, and the area’s mist-shrouded moors, sacred wells, and apple orchards only deepened the sense of mystery. Even today, the Tor rising above the landscape feels like a threshold between this world and something older, more magical.

But Avalon isn’t just a place. It is a metaphor — for sanctuary, rebirth, and inner transformation. It represents a return to oneself, to the source of strength, intuition, and balance that may lie hidden beneath the surface of everyday life.
In myth, it is ruled by powerful women — the enchantress Morgan le Fay, and the Lady of the Lake — figures who blend fierce protection with grace and magic. These archetypes have inspired countless retellings, including the novel Avalon Dreams, where modern life and ancient legend collide in one woman’s awakening.
Avalon is the heart of the Arthurian world — but also the heart of our own inner journeys. It stands for the idea that healing is possible, that our true selves are never lost, only waiting to be remembered.

The deep hues of Avalon Dream echo the layers of Vivienne’s transformation: the violet of intuition, the crimson of courage, the midnight blue of mystery and reflection.
